DATES for your DIARY

                           21st October 2010

The AGM this year will be held at St. Margarets' Church Hall, St. Margarets, Twickenham starting at 7.00pm.
This year our speaker was to be The Rt. Hon. Dr Vincent Cable MP, who continues to be a loyal friend to TRUNA,
however, due to his many commitments as Secretary of State for Business in the present coalition government, he has
reluctantly had to step down.  Therefore, the committee have agreed that following the matters of the AGM, including
election of new officers, there will be an open discussion, led by James Heather our prospective Chairman on the
current status of our borough's commitment to environment and climate change.  Light refreshment will be served.

Further information about the presentation at the AGM:

A presentation of the community based environmental and sustainability projects within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, focusing on the hydro project at Teddington Weir being developed by Ham Hydro CIC, the work of the Richmond Environment Network (REN), and the Ham & Petersham Low Carbon Zone (LCZ).  Speakers will include James Heather Director Ham Hydro CIC, Colin Cooper Manager REN (TBC but someone from REN will be speaking), Chas Warlow Street Champion Co-Ordinator LCZ. The speakers will be happy to answer questions on all aspects of community focused projects after the presentation.

Ham Hydro CIC is a not for profit company that is currently developing hydro power at Teddington Weir. The company will utilise it's profits to fund low carbon projects with the communities on both sides of the river.

REN is an umbrella body that supports and promotes community-based environmental and sustainability activities within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, England, UK. The work with residents, voluntary groups, charities, schools and social enterprises (civil society). In addition, REN has its own projects, programmes and subgroups to deliver an increase in community environmental activity and responsibility, biological diversity, sustainable thinking & practice in the borough and to foster the more prudent use of resources.

The Ham & Petersham LCZ is the largest of the Mayor of London's 10 LCZs. The zone is being jointly delivered by the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and Ham United Group CIC (HUG), an award wining community group.  Chas Warlow is employed by the councils sustainability team to co-ordinate aspects of this project and a director of HUG.  Low Carbon Zones is a community led approach to cutting the capital’s CO2 emissions. Ten London boroughs have won support and funding from the Mayor and GLA to create local Low Carbon Zones. These will provide model examples that can later be rolled out both within and beyond London.  The short-term aim of the scheme is to achieve a 20.12% reduction in carbon by 2012, and helping towards the Mayor’s target of a 60% cut in CO2 emissions by 2025. Longer-term the ambition is for London to become the world’s environmentally friendly city.
